The town of Jackson is located 50 miles south of the boundary of Yellowstone between the Teton and Gros Ventre mountain ranges in Wyoming. Yellowstone is located in the very northwestern corner of Wyoming, inching into Montana and Idaho. 96% of Yellowstone is in Wyoming while 3% dips into Montana, and a mere 1% in Idaho.

While Jackson isn’t right next door to Yellowstone the way it is with Grand Teton, it is a fantastic jumping off point for visiting the park. You can see Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, bubbling mud pots and steaming hot springs, along with amazing wildlife with enough time to make it back to Jackson for dinner!

Summer

The summer season is a time of birth, bounty, and warmth. Multi-Day Tours

If your itinerary allows for more than a day trip, we recommend a multi-day tour! Day tours are action packed and see so much, though they need to factor in travel time for their return to town. On multi-day tours, everything slows down. You can spend more time at each natural wonder that you see, venture farther into the park, and enjoy more time outside of the vehicle. You will be in the park for more morning and evening hours- primetime wildlife watching as most animals are more active during dawn and dusk. These tours also dedicate time exploring Grand Teton, so you get the full experience of two national parks. This is an excellent option to maximize your time in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem!

Multi-Day Tour

Winter is when we offer our exciting 3-Day Winter Wolves and Wildlife Safari! Most of the roads in Yellowstone are closed to personal vehicles during the winter, so navigating independently can be difficult and confusing. On our multi-day tour, we take care of everything!

The tour begins from Jackson and scouts Grand Teton for many of our most sought-after wildlife species from elk, moose, bison, eagles and more. Spectacular landscape views are made even more awe-striking in their winter phase. From there, we cross over Teton Pass on the journey to West Yellowstone where you will have your pick of activities. Take a snowcoach to Old Faithful, visit the Bear and Wolf Discovery Center, or snowmobile through the Yellowstone winter wonderland. Continuing on to Gardner puts us in the northern range of Yellowstone where our primary focus will be locating and watching wild wolves. By the time you return to your lodging in Jackson, you’ll be full of awe and wonder at all of the novel, magnificent sights you have witnessed with us!

Snowshoe Tour

Immerse yourself in the wilds of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem on a snowshoe tour. Step out of the confines of a vehicle and put yourself right in the middle of it all. Open up all of your senses and smell, feel, and hear the wild world around you.

After a scenic 2.5 hour drive from Jackson to West Yellowstone with potential for wildlife sightings along the way, you will jump right in with snowshoes provided by your guide. As you traverse the landscape on foot, the keen eyes of your expert guide will pick up tracks and signs of wildlife. This can tell you the story of what passed by and what recently happened right where you stand. After your return to the vehicle, you will visit the Bear and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone to view grizzly bears, wolves, otters, birds of prey, and other native species of fish and reptiles. The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is a vast landscape, so a full day is the minimum that you should plan to dedicate to exploring it. The South Entrance is about 50 miles from the town of Jackson, about a 1.5 hour drive which takes you through scenic Grand Teton. Yellowstone is a vast park covering 2.2 million acres of rugged wilderness and the major highlights are spread throughout. Expect travel time to and from the park, and between sightseeing.
