Max Ryan

Naturalist Guide

As a wildlife guide, Max hopes to introduce guests to parts of the natural world that they might not ordinarily discover on their own. He prefers dirt roads and short walks to the typical busy roads and pullouts that are common in the national parks. He is conservationist who believes the best way to protect natural resources is through education. Through his tours and wildlife photos, he hopes to inspire the next generation of conservationists and public land activists.

Max has been guiding since 2019.

Bio

Max grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and learned to climb and ski as part of a YMCA program. After high school he worked as a bike messenger and freelance sports/cycling photographer while studying philosophy at the local community college. Climbing eventually brought him to Kentucky where he worked as a climbing guide and volunteered on the search and rescue team. Eventually he ended up in Salt Lake City working as a ski patroller and teaching climbing to at risk and underprivileged youth.

In the winters, you can find Max living in little cottonwood canyon where he works on the Alta Ski Patrol. In the off seasons he is usually traveling and photographing the local wildlife, or on a skiing/climbing/packrafting trip somewhere far away from cell service.
