Lee Ramella

Naturalist Guide

Lee first discovered Yellowstone National Park as a college student in the 1990’s.  Since then, his love of backcountry exploration has taken him up countless peaks and along hundreds of miles of remote rivers and creeks.  Over the last twenty years, he has had a hand in discovering and documenting more than 250 new waterfalls within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.  Whether it’s historic trails, wildlife, geysers, or mountains, through the tales of his backcountry adventures, Lee brings the passion of discovery to his guests and has them fall in love with the parks as much as he once did.

Our tour guide, Lee Ramella, was fantastic. He was a wealth of information about the history of the parks as well as the wildlife, geology and mountains. He is a great storyteller using tales of his own back country adventures to teach and keep us on the edge of our seats. Lee's passion for the area and his wealth of knowledge kept us engaged and wanting to discover more giving us a love and understanding for the parks.

Full Bio

Lee grew up on the New England coastline, but while on a summer break from college in mid-90’s he was bitten by the “Yellowstone bug.” When his children had the opportunity to become enrolled in a dual immersion school program in Jackson Hole, he moved his family here permanently.   Lee has led more than a decade of experience leading summer tours through both Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks, as well as snowcoach tours in the winter.

His love for backcountry exploration took him over countless peaks and hundreds of miles along remote rivers and creeks. He helped discover and document more than 250 new waterfalls found in the last 20 years in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. While on safari, his favorite critter is the American pine marten because you don’t need bear spray to protect yourself from them.  Whether it’s historic trails, wildlife, geysers, and mountains or through the tales of his backcountry adventures, Lee brings the passion of discovery to his guests and has them fall in love with the parks as much as he once did.
